"Mrs.Baker" sent to Dukakis, MT Moore, MacLaine - June 19, 2000

Dukakis

Olympia Dukakis is the latest in a series of actresses to be approached about playing the title role of "MRS.BAKER". Dukakis is best known for her role as Cher's mother in MOONSTRUCK. In the past few weeks the script has also been sent to actresses Mary Tyler Moore (FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW) and Shirley MacLaine (STEEL MAGNOLIAS, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT).

When asked who he would most like to see in the role of Mrs.Baker, co-writer/producer Brian McDonald grinned, "I'd be thrilled with any one of them. They're all great actresses. You won't hear me complaining if we got one and not the other."

MacLaine

Director Kris Kristensen feels confident that an actor of their caliber won't be deterred despite this being his first feature, "We keep saying this over and over again, but people really respond well to the script -- especially actors. And I particularly think the part of Mrs.Baker is one that appeals to a veteran actress. There aren't a lot of great parts for women out there, much less for women over 40. I really think this a part on par with Norma Desmond in SUNSET BOULEVARD, and I truly believe it will attract some heavy hitters to it."
