"Mrs.Baker" takes the stage - Sept. 14, 2000
Co-authors Kris Kristensen and Brian McDonald have been invited by The Film Commission to stage a live reading of their award winning screenplay Mrs. Baker.

Kristensen and McDonald are currently raising financing for Mrs. Baker along with fellow co-producers Lisa Halpern and Scott Schill. The film is scheduled to shoot in Seattle in March of 2001. Last year the screenplay was a semi-finalist at the Austin Heart of Film Festival.

Mrs. Baker is a psychological horror film in the tradition of Rosemary's Baby and The Shining. The story centers around a young woman who struggles to retain control of her body and identity which are being possessed by the spirit of her dead benefactress.

This is not the first time that Mrs. Baker has been read aloud before a live audience. "After we finished the first draft, Kris and I held a reading because we wanted to get some feedback just to make sure that everything in the script was working," said McDonald. "The audience reaction was extremely positive."

Kristensen added, "I'm not really a big fan of live script readings because they don't do justice to the screenplay. In a way they're unfair to the author. But our last reading was really well received. There were literally audible gasps coming from the audience during key moments in the story."

McDonald concluded, "Yeah, you know if you can frighten a roomful of people, simply by having actors sitting in chairs reading, you know the material's gonna work when it gets on the screen."
