HD Award for CRACK - 3/05/07

Crack in the Sidewalk
won the award for Best Documentary Short at HD Fest in December. The award winning short explores the relationship between the artist and audience, and why does the viewer feel an affinity for a person whom we only know through their work, yet when we lose that person we grieve for them as though losing an intimate friend.

The film frames this question around the brutal murder of musician Bryan Harvey, lead singer of the 80's folk-rock duo House of Freaks. Director Kris Kristensen never knew Harvey yet describes the news of his death "as if I'd a college friend of mine had died."

Crack in the Sidewalk has also played at the Seattle International Film Festival and AFI Feset, amongst others.

This is the second time Scotopia Pictures has done well in the HD-Fest competition. The first was in 2004 when Inheritance took second place for best Feature Film and Cinematography.
