Survivor: Hollywood - 3/05/07

Are you an aspiring screenwriter/filmmaker living in Seattle and thinking about making the leap to Hollywood? Well, think about this, there's a reason that back in 1932 struggling actress Peg Entwhistle leapt off the top of the Hollywood sign in an act of suicide. Hollywood offers fame and fortune, but more often it delivers heartbreak.

Spend and evening with Kris Kristensen and other Los Angeles ex-patriates who "served their time in L.A." and managed to get out alive.

This month at the Screenwriter's Salon:

Hollywood or bust: Many aspiring screenwriters and filmmakers contemplate making the move to Hollywood. Can one build a career in the film biz by staying safely in their hometown or is it necessary to pack up, say goodbye to friends and family and brave the big bad city of angels? Is it really as bad as they say, or does fame and fortune await you.

In this installment of the Screenwriters Salon we will speak with people who have made the move to Los Angeles and lived to tell the tale. The event will be hosted by Brian McDonald and Andy Spletzer.

Kristensen explains the origin of this event, "Brian and I went to wish a friend goodbye on the eve of his moving to Los Angeles. As Brian and I began reflecting on our own experiences/horror stories, our friend freaked out. We thought to ourselves, 'how on earth is he going to survive down there if he can't even stomach the stories.' We wished someone had warned us what to expect. No surprise, less than two years later our friend fled Hollywood. At least he managed to get out alive."
