It's with great sadness that we must tell you that we lost a member of the Scotopia Pictures family last month. Actress Marjorie Nelson who portrayed Mrs. Baker in our film INHERITANCE passed away after an abrupt battle with Cancer.
"It was a pleasure to have worked with her," said director Kris Kristensen "Marjorie was incredibly giving. She surrendered herself to me as an actor, giving me all of her trust. I remember we were rehearsing the climax of the film, and I asked her to perform the scene in an unorthodox manner, and she nailed it. She asked 'Is that what you want?' I told her it was perfect, just what I wanted, then she followed up with 'Well, it doesn't make any sense to me, but if that's what you want, that's what you get.'" A director couldn't ask for more from their actor.
When the film premiered Nelson confided in Kristensen "Now I get the movie. That was really good, you did a great job." Kristensen realized that Nelson never fully understood the paranormal aspects of the film, yet she was willing to put her trust in the hands of a fledgling director such as himself. "It's an experience I will always treasure."
Nelson's role in INHERITANCE was so convincing as the menacing Mrs. Baker, that several local baristas were actually frightened by the normally cordial Nelson, only to later realize that they unconsciously recognized her from her role in the film.
Nelson was the grand dame of Seattle theater, and appeared in Sydney Pollack's directorial debut THE SLENDER THREAD, TWIN PEAKS and many other films. She was 86.
